Ozone Therapy
Ozone Gas & Ozonated Water in Dentistry
Ozone gas and ozonated water can be used in dentistry for their antimicrobial properties.
Ozone gas is a highly reactive gas composed of three oxygen atoms. It may be beneficial in various treatments, such as disinfecting periodontal pockets and root canal systems and reducing cavity sensitivity.
Ozonated water refers to water that has been treated with ozone gas. It may be effective in irrigating infected periodontal pockets and sterilizing extraction sockets. It can also be used to disinfect dental equipment.
Ozonated Olive Oil
Ozonated olive oil can be used topically and may help promote healing and reduce the risk of infection. Following periodontal treatment, Dr. Cloth may recommend our take-home ozonated olive oil.
What is Ozone?
Ozone (O3) is a molecule made up of three oxygen atoms. Ozone can be an effective antimicrobial agent against a range of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa, as it has the ability to disrupt the cell walls of these microorganisms, leading to their destruction.
Additionally, ozone may improve blood circulation and boost the immune response in patients.
How Does Ozone Help Dental Healing?
Ozone may help with dental healing in the following ways:
- Activate red blood cells to improve oxygen release
- Destroy bacterial cell walls, which can destroy fungi, viruses and bacteria
- Help our cells fight off harmful substances and boost our body's natural defence system
- Modulate the immune system
- Increase the anti-inflammatory effect
